Little Tree Boy

Little Tree Boy

A Poem by David Smothers

I'm just that little boy who lived in the trees
Jumped in the water just to try it and splat
The mountains talked to me with a comfort from the breeze
I remember how I'd walk along the train tracks to place pennies to be made flat

My rope swing would moan as it carried me to the heavens
I'd fly with the clouds as they would float away after the rain
My friend was the sun as it served to spot light all the mysteries of the world to its farthest ends
I would walk the farthest roads without an ounce of strain

I would drink the life giving waters of the clearest streams
The babbling brooks were the keys to a portal to my Eden
My feet would feel their way through the white sands of my wildest dreams
I miss the tar on my toes that was a gift to me upon my return to my den

Those wild days that so impressed upon my sojourner's soul
My connection to nature that feeds me from the inside
I feed from that life giving bowl
I will now depart to arrive to the shore of my mind at the right tide.
