You are a Light

You are a Light

A Poem by David Smothers

They say the eyes are the window to the soul.
Sometimes a lifetime can be seen in one gaze.
Depth of life and soul co-mingle into a hope of the dawn.
The memories held inside want to be expressed and savored as that of the finest spice.
A vulnerable yet strong position of character.
This is how I see you.

A mystery of the history
A riddle
Of sorts
Certainly an inspiration of thought
To create
That deepest of satisfying fruits from the tree of life
It was given to us
This mystery that yields the guides along the way
Will you take me to the cave of where I seek this freedom
To think?

An open soul
An open mind
The learning and sophic desire
A guiding principle
An intertwined passage through the stations of experience and understanding
As it is with the sojourner seeking meaning along the path
Of life
Like turning a leaf of a eloquent novel
So it is.

You weren't afraid of what these eyes have seen
All that has been
Let it be
You are a light
In a world filled with darkness
In a world enveloped by the oceans
In a world where there is only one hope
Of which
So few tarry without acquiring scars for some to see
Others are not seen
You are a light
A light to the world
