When the Lights go Out

When the Lights go Out

A Poem by David the writer

When the lights go out
And there's no one else around
Do you like yourself
Or do you pretend like you aren't there

When you see yourself for who you are
Are you still staring, or do you look away
Are you happy
When you can't believe you're someone else

When my eyes are closed
There are parts of me I can't ignore
But I love the cracks
They remind me that I'm human

When you feel the cracks in your character
Can you say you've done your best to fill them in
Or do you stare
Do you stare at the person you wish you weren't

Who are you really
Can you answer that question
I know I can't
But can you admit that indecision

When you feel the feelings you feel
When you can't ignore that you're ignoring them all
Do you feel alive
Or does your face still smile blank
