ShadowsA Poem by David the writer
From between the binding halls of high school
To the cold concrete streets we see ourselves crossing There are always shadows There will always be those cold corners no one notices These shadows hide things "normal" people don't want to see "Normal people" won't acknowledge these shadows because they don't want to But we all know these shadows are there Though, do we ever know all of what is in the shadows, or who I am in the shadows I am forced in the shadows of my bedroom closet I am stuffed away in the shadows of tough concrete streets But I do not stand alone, and that makes me feel more lonesome than anything For the people, we the people These shadows are not "un-American" Love thy neighbor These shadows are not against any religion These shadows exist in your streets, in your schools, in your life And you walk past them every day without knowing unless you too live in shadows But they don't have to If the light of day, where everyone else roamed, was safe, they wouldn't have to I am proud to represent these shadows of ours To step among these day dwellers and smile Because that is where I belong, as do the others And if "normal people" don't want to see me, then they can close their eyes, but I am done hiding
