New Year's Resolution

New Year's Resolution

A Chapter by DavidRyanM

For Christmas, my brother thought it would be funny to give me a bag
full of pennies. "I don't know how much is in there," he said. It felt heavy, so
I assumed a lot. It sat on my desk until I found myself out of cigarettes. I went to the store and asked for a pack of smokes.
When the clerk put them on the counter, I dropped the bag of pennies next to them.
He looked at me. I looked at him. He looked longer at me. I looked at the bag.
It took him five minutes to count it all and I was still short by two dollars.
"I should quit smoking any way," I told him, and left.

Love it. The general inconvenience of pennies and the assumption that "it felt heavy" leading up to thinking that it must add up -brilliant. This theory applies in a weird sense that having alot can be misleading. I could go off on some strange (and maybe irrelevent) tangents here but mainly I came across this conclusion- The bag of pennies is a playful spin off the title "New Year's Resolution" - in a sense that we often have a s**t ton, but in the end come up short.

This is awesome! I love the simplicity of your One-Hitter Stories. I'm slowly making my way thru the whole collection and this is another great addition. Thank you.
