A Chapter by DavidRyanM

The End Of A Dream :

Drinking a cold beer between drags, listening to the soundtrack to Xanadu being pumped through s****y speakers in a run-down restaurant, and somehow I thought I was destined for more.

Inhale :

I've smoked cigarette after cigarette and yet, somehow, my life still feels
incomplete.

Back-Handed :

"This girl I know said some pretty mean things about your physical appearance.
I defended you though," She said. This was structured to make me feel better about myself,
but it didn't. Now I stand in front of the mirror questioning everything.

The New Flame :

She went for the door and, around the corner, they exchanged hugs and laughs
at an inside joke. When they came in, she introduced us and his demeanor changed
slightly. I suspected jealousy but he seemed to push it aside and we co-existed
in her living room.

Former Lover :

"Oh. I use to have this book," she mused as she made her way over to my bookshelf.
"I let you borrow it and you said you had given it to your girlfriend at the time --
never finding it important enough to get it back to me."
That's really what our relationship revolved around : A book given to a former lover.

11:59 PM :

Tomorrow promises
only what today failed to accomplish.

Love, Or Something Like it :

"I hope you know nothing is going to come out of this," she says as she undresses.
"This is simply something fun to do. No relationship will evolve."

Monday :

"I have a bad case of crow's feet," she said. I have no idea what that means
so I smile and nod. Almost immediately I feel this was the wrong decision.

Subject Matter :

"It's not always like this," she said.
"Sometimes I cry before sex."

*ponders* the snapshot pieces of this feel like blinking. there is a stricken quality to the narrator, detached, yet still remotely feeling the sting.

I'm sincerely enjoying every word of your work. The "Monday" part made me laugh.

Wow I see as I get further into the book the writing becomes heavier and more mature. Interesting.
