The Angel That Was

The Angel That Was

A Chapter by DavidRyanM

The young boy tore furiously at the sand, trying to get

to another time. Another day. He smiled when it went

deeper than even he had imagined.

"Why so happy?" his mother asked. "Because if there

are more places like this, under the sand, maybe

I can get back to when we were all happy." he answered.

His mother wept. He kept digging.

The digging, biting and innocent remarks of an unfiltered child. Yet again you exemplify emotion brilliantly and effortlessly (or so it seems). I don't know what's sadder: the surprise in which the mother finds her son is happy for a reason as simple as that of digging to new depths into the sand, or the fact that the child destroyed his mother so quickly and easily, with no ideas or intentions of even doing so. Both are unguarded and unexpected, much like the first line that describes the spontaneity of digging deeper into the sand than ever before.

I promise to say something other than "wow." I would like more detail about the mother, maybe in the way she weeps. I feel like I have learned so much more about the little boy's character, slightly imbalanced. Other than that, it's very impressive.

Wow. This was haunting. The innocence of children... so sad and beautiful.

Wow this one is the best so far! It's very creative. Kids can be so blunt and honest.
