To Write You a Love PoemA Poem by David M PitchfordA failed sonnet about writing a failed sonnet about writing a sonnet about love. Sort of . . .
Too Mindful to Write You a Love PoemToo conscious, I write you a love sonnet about writing you a love song about
writing poems of love . . . But my head knows what my heart can’t tell. Because I think of love in this moment instead of feeling love, our love, flow and so it’s no-go in our Mountain Stream, thinking too much to feel this feeling I want to put into words . . . And I, no more musical than these tin cans banging down the highway behind our white
getaway car, no limo but no less,
“Just Married” on the windows and me in tux behind the wheel, thinking Yeah, yeah. We are—
‘just married’ for nine years now. And barely begun down that long highway toward our perpetual Honeymoon, danced ‘round by Pleiades and all the angels from the head of every pin ever created . . . and still, I’m too mindful to feel what my heart—feel what my heart feels as I sit to write you a love sonnet.
