Cold Nights

Cold Nights

A Chapter by Dave Brown

The cold of nights persist

And my heart can’t warm

She stole all the good parts

The remainder is torn

Just moonlight on our pillow

Where she had once laid her face

Now that night light reveals

Nothing but an empty space

Once we drifted among clouds

And danced through stars

But my fall from her heaven

Left just open scars

What use is a body

With no heart to hold

Once filled with priceless passion

Now left with only fool’s gold

Good rhyme and meter, Dave. This one would make a great country music song.

Even during nights - stone cold, I yearn for fireworks to fill in the blanks left by empty bypasses of those who visit my bed. That image is aroused from within me upon reading the poem. Quite a personal and profound work, author Dave Brown, and hopefully occurrences as such remain fiction, for all of us.

Such a sad poem. Perhaps a memory of a past love or a piece of fiction. A real emptiness here. Nicely penned Dave. Hope you are well.
