Touching back on the reins

His pony threw back its head

Both looked off at the horizon

Where the sky was turning to red

Then at the lone goose honking

As it flew by overhead

He pulled out his carbine

And took careful aim

A wandering rider

Could always use extra game

But with this lone fellow traveler

Lined up in his eye

His heart felt a connection

And let her fly by

With night’s sky starting its bite

He dismounted neath a lone prairie tree

And as brother goose continued his flight

He knew that once more

After gettin his cooking fire bright

He’d be eating

Beans tonight

I like this poem a lot. Beans in a Pot over an open Fire... perhaps with some Wild Onions on the Top. Geese were meant to fly... like Lovers in a Hurricane. softly, Pat

That's one of the most attractive sceneries one would expect from the West, a plain field with the sun behind it, falling to the bottom. What can I say beside it tickled my adventurous bones slightly and did jolt me up a bit? Quite the fine read you've given me, author Dave Brown. Quite the read it was.

Well tuned, rhythmically written poem. When I read I felt, I have turned as a musician. Good work friend

I liked the imagery in this, I had time I hunted a similar experience out shooting rabbits with friends. Had one in the sites and just didnt want to kill the rabbit. That was the last time I hunted.
