Winter's Approach

Clouds thicken with Winter’s approach

In my mind one door closes

That ice cream cart is gone

As is its cheerful bell

Seabirds no longer chase balloons

That are now impaled on bare branches

Soft blue seas, once inviting

And dreams, once riding soft breezes

Are now dashed upon rocky shores

The big white house’s veranda is empty

Leaves litter streets

Poetic inspiration hides in a corner    

Until blue skies reappear

Winter is undoubtedly harsh. But it has its own magic. And it comes with its own brand of inspiration too... like the one that produces this poem. I appreciate the way you painted such a vivid picture of winter.

It most definitely does have its own charm right up until it becomes necessary to start digging, then that charm quickly fades (at least for me)
