Foot Brake

Walking the trail just takin a break

And happened across a nine-foot bull snake

Lying in the sun just barely awake

Having me quickly apply my foot brake

 

Seeing it had caused me some alarm

It assured it meant nobody no harm

Further responding with a charm to disarm

Explaining it worked at the neighbouring farm

 

Saying, as it lay there in the complete buff

He’d been employed to catch rodents and stuff

For him, they were just the greatest foodstuff

But for the moment he’d ate quite enough

 

With sun shinning he was just lyin back

Apparently of time, he’d kina lost track

Every so often his attack would go slack

Now to get back before gettin employer flak

 

Just before returning to the barnyard

He gave me his number, catchin me off guard

In case I had unwanted rodents round the yard

And for convenience, he would take MasterCard

Not a fan of snakes, poisonous or not. When I lived in the interior, we had rattlers, and I spend a fair bit of time in the desert in So Cal as well, and lots there too. I'm glad your snake was amiable, however I will take a pass on meeting him, and just be content to have read about him. Very imaginative! You should be writing about some of the big-assed spiders and slugs found on the Wet coast.

I'm not sure a proper lady should use the a**ed connotation, additionally, a slug poem would be no more than slime in a rhyme, even possibly sumkina poetic crime, however I'll see if I've sum creative, slime crime rhyme time.

We have no bull snakes here. Lots of Rat snakes and Trinket snakes and some poisonous snakes too. I have some experience s with them. Good nature poem.

We are basically a Garter (non poisonous) snake area here but further up country, the Okanagan, there are rattle snakes, but they are rarely heard from
