If Life Brings Lemons

Pink hair, streaked blue

A dress too short and tight

A half-filled glass of Rye

With lipstick smeared on the rim

Tear smeared mascara   

Fake nails on crooked fingers

A half-smoked butt

Twists a line of smoke to a stained embossed ceiling

She’s mostly invisible

Something that fills a space

Wondering where life has gone

Coughing, she raises two scrawny fingers

Idly watching slow moving couples

Disappear cross the dim smoke-filled dance floor

She relights her butt

As the music plays on
