Mercy, Mercy, Mercy

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy

A Poem by David O Whalen (O Haolin in Celtic)
"

Commentary on poverty

"
Mercy, Mercy… Mercy me

A light, white frosting
of snowflakes
Upon cardboard and
old soiled blankets
Streetlamps and neon signs
Bright light…empty… unfeeling
and bone chillingly cold

Plastic bottles and wadded bags
Holey sneakers wrapped
In filthy rags
Tortured dreams and
Muffled screams
And piercing, numbing cold

…Mercy, mercy... mercy me…

I think it is a good subject for poetry. You describe the scene and show a view into it. Well done, my friend.

this is beautiful in a tragic way...the first two lines...so light, almost starting to create a pretty scene, and then the stark images of the poor street people...living out of cardboard homes...eating among the trash...

grossly poetic the way you describe...we feel the poverty in its worst degree.

such a well done poem.
