Pretend

Pretend

A Poem by David O Whalen (O Haolin in Celtic)
"

Romantic plaint

"
Pretend…Just for me
Just for tonight
That my Kia is a corvette
That I’m six foot two
That my hair is still there
And dark and wavy too

Pretend that I don’t talk
All hillbilly funny
Pretend that I’ve got
A boatload of money
Pretend that I look
Like Steve McQueen
That I still look as if
I were seventeen

That’s really not so much
That I’m asking of you
Just a little pretense
Is all you have to do

Pretend that you love me
Pretend that you’ll be true
Because I don’t have to pretend
…when it comes to you…

No, I don't hate it. But I have to point out that Steve McQueen's hair was neither dark nor wavy...and few seventeen year olds have much to offer in the way of looks.
