Reading PoetryA Poem by David-Tyler
Reading poetry when I should be sleeping
Brings me back to every gentle scene I'm mourning And I'd sacrifice it all one last time to do it all again with you Go to hell and back, ride to the stars, the moon and back with you Each pause between words is as blank as I feel I knew this day could come but I never thought it'd be real Letting you go like giving up the last slice of an almost paradise Got me feeling caught up in a mid life paradigm It wasn't easy, loving with the fire I did But that's how I was raised to be as a kid My father said find one and commit to her if you love her And I could never lie about about that night, now it's just a blur All familiar signs lead me back home Problem is, you're the only home I've ever known Holding you to my chest, brushing your hair with my hand Eyes wide, heart open, you were my very own promised land Now I'm Reading poetry when I should be sleeping I called you too many times just because I forget in the morning That you left and you told me not wait up for you any longer Every day I try, and ever night it gets harder to just get stronger
