Nightime Fears

Nightime Fears

A Poem by David Dodsworth
"

spooky

"

Vampires and werewolves, goblins and ghosts

These are the things that scared me the most

Checking the wardrobe for monsters at night

A noise on the stairs that gave me a fright

Under the covers, chilled to the bone

Frightened by darkness, scared and alone

My brother says skeletons are under my bed

They can’t be destroyed, there already dead

I wake from a nightmare screaming for mum

She tells me don’t worry, go to sleep son

The light on the landing, lights up my room

No more need to be frightened, sleep will come soon.

I liked this poem, it made me smile, remembering what it was like as a little girl to be lying in bed hearing those odd noises through the night.
