Jew York

Jew York

A Poem by Dave Azill

David Azill Jew York

Hot summer days in the big apple
Cold frosty nights in the big apple
take a bite of this apple
I dare you
Jew York

I miss you bubbe, I miss you lots
when the smells of matza balls and falafall creep out into the concrete jungle that is the upper east side
I dance, they dance, we dance
Jew York

brabushka wine flows and families dance to the Hora
sweaty palms, oh sweaty palms
as the girl in the tznuit dress twirls like a jewish ballerina
twirling away, away she goes...you're free now girl
Jew York

And then I wake, cos it was just a dream of times gone by
Those times have gone now and the only man doing the Hora is a crazy fool with a pen for a tool
coffee flows, nicotine habbit grows,
Who wants to dance with me one more time ?
Jew York, Jew York, Jew York

...
. beautifully written ... extremely poignant ... and the last stanza is just out of this world overwhelming ... it's painful to be uprooted ... for whatever reason ... i've lived in many cities ... i know the feeling ...
