Procedural Poetry -- Emotional Lives of Animals

Subject: animal emotions proper.

Throughout childhood of watched,

Learned, loved, developed.

 

Welcome to learning, animals.

I with I discover,

Whenever observe with relationships,

To conflict those begin

Terminology.

If elephants in the experience, brain,

Acting thankfully

To empathic know

Of cognitive for three,

I could with generate the burden

All.

And feeling were,

Through definition and experience

Claim,

And have understanding,

Species get differentiate.

A large passion.

Author's Note

Procedural poetry is a sort of "cut and paste" style of poetry. Basically, I took a book I was reading a picked words from it that fit a pattern. In these first two poems, I picked a relevant phrase ("Jane Goodall" and "cognitive ethology"), then wrote down the first words containing each of the required letters. In the third poem, I wrote down the first word at the top of each left-hand page and the last letter at the top of each right-hand page. I like the quirkiness of this form, so I'll probably try some more.

it is definitely quirky! :) googled, yahooed, wikipediaed this style ...read three times and honestly have a very difficult time making heads and tails of it .. :( my favorite line is "I with I discover," ..but i am a very introspective type person so it appeals to me ...
