She's injured and has an ascendant, so he realizes she just escaped a prison world and Kai. Will he save her, or will he leave her to die? Will they get back together? Despite the hatred he always expresses, does he still care about her? When she gets stuck in the cave with Elsa, can he save her?

It was a dismal night, as Damon walked through the Mystic Falls woods, a nearly empty bottle of bourbon in hand, dealing with the loss of Elena the only non-violent way he could.

Suddenly, after he'd finished the bottle and had tossed it to the ground, he appeared in some unfamiliar woods. Not knowing why, he took a walk around, investigating, but when he smelled the familiar scents, he stopped in his tracks. After a few moments, he made up his mind, deciding to help her. Despite his hatred towards her, a part of him would always care about her, no matter how many times they threw knives at each other, metaphorically speaking. They'd always have each other's backs when it came to an enemy. No one except him was allowed to hurt her and get away with it. It went the same way if their positions were reversed.

As soon as he found her, he knew from the ascendant that she'd come from a prison world. Due to the arrow in her lower stomach, she'd had to deal with Kai. She was in bad shape too, despite trying to stay awake, and he knew that she'd lost a lot of blood. Despite trying to fight it, he knew she wouldn't be able to much longer.

In an instant, he was knelt at her side, where she lay on her back, trying to fight the darkness.

"Damon?" she inquired, blurrily seeing him.

"It's okay. I'm here. I'm going to help you," he assured her. He then looked at her wounds to see how bad it was. Immediately, after doing that, he realized why she already was having trouble staying awake. He could see an open thigh artery, which she'd lost a lot of blood from. There was also the arrow in her lower stomach he'd seen when he'd immediately seen her, which he now quickly pulled out and tossed to the ground. "Stay with me, Katherine," he said, as he saw her starting to go under. Then he gently pulled her into his arms and got to his feet, before blurring out of the woods and finding the nearest hospital to get her some help from. When he was in the view of the hospital though, he stopped using vamp-speed, not knowing what kind of people lived in this town.

Several hours later, he was seated on her bedside, a hand on hers, waiting for her to wake up. She'd gone through surgery and had survived. As he did so, he heard someone approaching the room. And he could sense magic. Actually, all over this town, he sensed magic. He assumed this was a town full of people with magic.

When he looked when the footsteps stopped, he saw someone that radiated with powerful magic. It wasn't everyday that he came across a powerful witch, but he knew one when he sensed or saw one.

"I hate to interrupt, but who are you and what are you doing in my town?" she inquired of him, before he said anything.

"Well, I don't like to give out details, but I'm Damon. That's Katherine. I'm a vampire. When Katherine was a vampire, she turned me back in 1864. Five years ago, Katherine tried to kill her doppelganger, Elena, which at the time I was in love with, and Elena shoved the cure for vampirism down her throat, making her human. Shortly after she was reunited with her long-lost daughter, a werewolf-vampire hybrid named Tyler bit her and she had to watch her die. Then Katherine died of old age when time caught up with her. I'm assuming Katherine came from what we call a prison world, considering her injuries. Where we're from, there's only one person with a crossbow that will do anything to keep someone from leaving the prison world without him. I don't know why we both ended up here. I just know I was in the woods in Mystic Falls, Virginia dealing my own way in trying not to become the monster I used to be, until I suddenly appeared in the woods here and I found Katherine like that. Vampires have heightened emotions a lot more than humans. When we're emotionally hurt or lost someone close to us, we tend to lash out. Elena eventually taught me how not to lash out with killing people. I may hate Katherine after she hurt me many years ago as a vampire by letting me go instead of continuing being together, but a part of me will always care, and Katherine and I have a rule. Anyone that hurts either of us will wish they hadn't. In the end, we'll always have each other's backs," he replied to her. "Now, who may you be? Being a vampire, I can sense witches and magic."

"You can call me Regina. I used to be the evil queen. Welcome to Storybrooke. I'm sure you two will get along here. We've all done things in our past, whether we regret them or not. And we've all lost someone. This is a town full of magic. I created it with a curse thirty-one years ago to get my revenge on Snow White. It never worked, which I'm actually happy about. You two should feel at home here, I'm sure," Regina replied.

Damon remembered fairytale stories, so he knew what she meant by being the evil queen and trying to get her revenge on Snow White. And being a vampire, it wasn't too far fetched.

He watched, as she left the room.

Not long afterward, Kat woke up to see where she was, and when she asked where they were and thanked him for saving her life, he informed her. No sooner had he informed her, than the power went out.

        "What the hell?" Kat inquired.

"Let's check it out," Damon said.

After Kat got dressed and everything, Damon stayed at her side, as they investigated what had happened to the power.

After walking around for a while to find out what caused the power outage, they found an ice wall that Charming and Hook were already at. Damon had met them earlier, so he already knew them. Kat knew them upon appearance, since she remembered fairytales back when she was little. Even in the 1400's, there were fairytales.

As they stopped not far from where they stood, they both overheard Hook say that the ice wall went all the way around the town, keeping them all inside the town.

When Hook saw a fallen streetlight that had a power box on it, he inquired, "Guess that's what caused the loss of power?"

"Look at you, becoming a twenty-first century pirate," Kat commented, impressed at how quick of a learner he was in a world that he wasn't even from. "Yeah," she added, letting him know that he was right. "It looks to me like whoever was putting up the wall wasn't trying to take out the lights. They were just putting up the wall."

"Yeah. Keep us in. But why?" Charming replied.

"Kill us all one by one. It's what I'd do," Hook replied.

"Of course, that's what you'd do. Let's just not jump to conclusions," she replied to him.

Charming heard the radio that was in the car, so he walked off to answer it.

While Charming was at his car, Kat looked at the ice wall, only to see something like someone was in there.

"I think I see something by the wall. Wait here while I check it out." She then looked at Damon, before he could say anything, and told him, "No arguing. Just stay here with these two." She told him that, knowing him all too well. He loved to argue with others and didn't like those he cared about wandering off to the unknown without protection. After telling him that, she went over to investigate the wall. Then she entered what looked to be an ice cave, where there was someone there in a blue dress.

Elsa turned around and looked at her.

"Hey. My name's Katherine. Who are you?" Katherine greeted, being cautious but friendly towards her.

        "My name is Elsa."

        Katherine slowly stepped towards her.

"Okay, Elsa. It's okay. I'm Katherine. Wanna tell me what you're doing out here? Do you have something to do with this wall?"

"I'm looking for someone. My sister. I can't find her." Elsa held the star necklace in her hand. "This was hers. I found it in the store filled with things. Where is she?"

"I have no idea. But if you want me to help you, you have to help me. What's her name?"

        "Anna."

Hook and Charming went to go see what was taking her so long and approached the wall. They then saw Katherine whom was with a girl. Damon, however, stayed where he was. He didn't have to investigate, since he could hear perfectly what was going on, and he knew not to interrupt. Especially, when Katherine didn't want anyone following her.

Since Charming and Hook had both met Damon earlier, they knew her name, so Hook called her name. When he did, Katherine warned them both, "Stay back."

Elsa pointed hands towards them, unsure what their intentions were.

"Hey, hey," Charming said, and was about to go towards where they were.

"No, no, no, stay back. It's okay. She's just trying to find her...," Katherine began.

Elsa lost control and more of the pointed icicles appeared.

        "Katherine," Hook called.

Kat fell when an icicle rose up from the part of the ice she was on.

Elsa looked at Charming and Hook and then she and Katherine were sealed inside the cave that was inside the wall of ice, before even Damon could get inside to get Katherine out of there. When that happened, Hook and Charming fell, since they were too close to the ice wall.

        Charming and Hook got up.

When Katherine woke up, she put a hand to her temple and sat up, her head hurting a little, and saw that Elsa was by her. It looked like she'd been trying to wake her up. She then saw that her phone was lying by her and that Damon was calling, so she picked it up.

        "What's that?" Elsa questioned.

"It's a phone. It helps me talk to Damon and the others that are on the other side of that wall."

When it didn't look like Elsa was going to stop her, she answered Damon's call.

"Are you okay?" he inquired, before she could say anything.

"I'm fine for now, considering I'm human."

"You have a plan? You normally have one. I could break the wall, but I doubt that'll go over well with her," he wanted to know and said.

"Her sister needs to be found. I'm assuming she helps her control her magic. You and I both know that magic is fueled by emotions, and those that can't control their magic, usually anchor it to someone they love. You're welcome to stay here, or you can go with Charming and Hook," she replied.

"I'll stay here and keep an ear out just in case. I'll let them do whatever they have to. They know everyone in town. We don't," he replied.

After their conversation, they hung up.

While Hook and Charming went off to go talk to Rumple, Kat got to her feet and started walking around in the cave of ice, arms crossed, trying to keep warm, feeling the cold now.

        She approached Elsa.

        "Aren't you cold? I'm freezing."

"It never bothered me," Elsa admitted.

"I can tell you care about here a lot. I'm sorry about her necklace," Kat said, talking about her sister, and said that last part when she saw that the necklace was stuck underneath the ice, hanging on a sharp piece of ice.

Elsa began looking around for it.

        "Where is it?"

"It fell. Under the ice, here. You can melt it down and get it back here," she said, as Elsa looked through the crack to see the necklace.

Elsa looked away, but Katherine knew from experience with a lot of different species that the reason she hadn't melted anything was because she couldn't control it.

"You can't control it, can you?" Katherine guessed.

"What makes you think you know me?"

"Because I know myself. Even before I was descended from Travelers which are gypsies that have adapted to the change in times, I was something called a vampire. I had different kind of powers all together and I had to learn on my own what to do with them. And it looks to me like you're the same way. I don't know the kind of gypsies you fairytales are accustomed to as the modern world where Damon and I are from outside of this town calls all of you, but gypsies do have magic, which means I have some magic. I just haven't learned to make it, as we call it, active magic. The only thing I know how to do is jump into someone else's body, but Travelers that have learned real magic know a lot of magic. If I knew how to make my magic active, I could do anything I need to."

        "You? You have magic?"

        "Yeah."

Elsa decided to finally converse with her on some things.

"Anna helps. She helps me control it. So if I can find her, she can help me undo this. We can get rid of all this, the whole wall, when she's here."

Katherine walked a distance away and told her, "Well, I'm afraid she's not."

After a while, Kat began to feel colder and layed down after telling Elsa that she was just tired.

"Oh, no," Elsa said, knowing how bad it was getting for her, and knelt by her, stopping her from laying down. "Tell me more. Were you born with magic or cursed?"

"Those are my two options? It's kind of a long story. I never knew that I was descended from Travelers, so I never knew that I had magic. I'm from the world outside of this town. My magic is quite different, though. I didn't know I was descended from Travelers until my long-lost daughter found me and once I knew who she was and once she told me, she told me everything I needed to know about being descended from Travelers."

"Well, I ended up queen of a large land, unprepared."

"I hear you with unprepared. I wasn't prepared to find out that I was descended from Travelers or that my daughter was still alive that my father gave away because of the laws of the time I lived in a long time ago."

"Sometimes it all feels like too much, doesn't it? And even trying to just shut it out, that ends up hurting people, too. And part of it is, I'm the only one I've ever heard of with powers like mine."

"That has to be very lonely," Kat sympathized with her.

"I'm very sorry I trapped us here. I didn't mean it," Elsa said.

        "I know," Kat replied.

"Katherine? Katherine," Elsa called, trying to wake her up.

Charming and Hook had just left Rumple's shop and now were with Bo Peep, having just taken her staff. After Rumple had revealed some info, Charming knew who exactly Anna was. Only, he'd known her for a short time as Joan, instead of Anna. Anna had been branded by Bo Peep, so they needed her staff to find their way to finding Anna. They had to do everything they could to save Katherine, but also because Charming owed her for helping him become who he was these days.

After grabbing Bo Peep's staff, they heard about Katherine's worsening condition and headed back to the wall. And it didn't take long for them to arrive. When they did, Charming set the staff against part of the wall and, with Elsa on the phone after Damon had called her after Damon had realized what was going on, Charming told her, "Elsa, listen to me. I need you to find a way out."

        "I need Anna."

"Well, we don't have her right now, but we have a way to find her. And we will. But right now, you're gonna have to do this on your own."

"I can't control this," she admitted to him.

"I know how you feel. You're trapped. It's a battle you can't win. But it's exactly the kind of battle you have to fight. Or you'll die."

        "No, I won't. I'll survive. But Katherine..."

"Survival isn't enough. You have to live."

"Where did you hear that?" Elsa asked, knowing that's exactly what her sister would say.

        "You know where."

        "Anna? You knew her?"

"Yeah, I did. She helped me once, a long time ago, become who I am. She saved my life. And yours. And now, we need you to save Katherine's. I didn't know much about Anna, but she wouldn't want you to live alone in an ice cave. Which is where you'll be if you don't melt that ice. Now do it."

Elsa got to her feet and concentrated. Then, soon enough, she was able to get the wall down.

"I see her. Katherine," Hook said.

Once the wall was opened enough to do so, Damon, not caring if any of them questioned him on his ability to do so, blurred inside and was instantly at her side. A part of him still cared whether she lived or died, even if, at times, he didn't show it. However, this time, he did show it.

Once he was knelt at her side, he used his jacket to put around her and then gently pulled her into his arms, getting to his feet. Then he followed Charming, Elsa, and Hook to the place where Charming lived with Snow White. Then, once they had arrived and he'd been invited in by Charming, since Charming was the owner as well as Snow, Damon layed her down on the couch.

A few minutes after the power came back on and he'd set up a space heater by her and was seated on the corner of the couch she lay on, she slowly woke up to see that she was in someone's apartment and wasn't cold or dying anymore. Also, she saw that the power had come back on and Damon was there.

        She gave a smile.

        "You saved me. Thanks."

The others didn't say anything about her giving him all the credit for saving her life. They instead, conversed about how to find Anna for Elsa.

"You're welcome," Damon replied with a smile.

After a few months of living together in one of the houses that didn't occupy any fairytale characters, they got back together and decided to stay there.
