Twas the Last Day of Finals

A Poem by DastaLouise19
"

I'm not a poet, but every so often I get struck with poetic genius... This is based on true events, by the way.

"

Twas the last day of finals and all through the school
students were rushing to turn in their homework.
Project files were saved and exported with care
in hopes that instructors would like them when they got there.
And I sat down at my desk far up in the Cage
to help any students with whatever they needed.
When out in the hallway there arose such a clatter,
I sprang up from my desk to see what was the matter.
Around the corner, students flew in a flash,
torn open their backpacks and tossed me a stash of thumb drives.
"We need prints for our teacher," they told me."We're in quite a hurry.

See, this assignment is due by 10:30 this morning!"

So I hurried to the printer to start the first round of pictures,
but found, with dismay, that the black toner was empty!
I know nothing of printer cartridges, and even less about toner,
but I'm the Cage person who could be found this morning...
So I searched high and low until that toner I found
on the highest shelf in the farthest back corner of the I.T. people's realm.
I alighted my step stool to reach my prize,
but when I loaded it into the printer, I found, to my surprise,
that the toner waste cartridge was full (or empty?),
well, anyway, it had to be replaced,
but after much searching, I could find no trace (of the new one)...
So, I called the I.T. guy, and cried "Help!" into his phone,
"I can't find this cartridge, and the line of customers is quite long!"
"Calm down," he explained groggily. "They're hidden away
in the secret closet within the closet where the new art kits stay."
So I closed down the Cage and put up a sign
explaining I would return in a very short time,
And off I went to hunt for someone who held the key
to that secret closet in the closet where the toner waste cartridges would be.
The dean was confused that a lowly Cage Worker would need access to that room,

but he shrugged and unlocked the two doors so that I could enter.
Having achieved my goal, and with toner waste cartridge in hand,
I returned to my station, and soon the printer began
to work again. Finally.
Relieved by success and the fruit of my labors,
I sat back and printed each student's magazine cover.
And as they started to head back to class,
I called, "Happy Finals to all, and I hope you all pass!"
