Six Years with the Promotional Jacket

Six Years with the Promotional Jacket

A poem dedicated to my jacket.

Six Years with the Promotional Jacket

I got you as my “promotion” in high school

Even though I was brought up as an interim manager

You were the most beautiful jacket I’ve been with

Torn and beaten, I’ve gotten my years out of my price.

A few buttons missing and a giant rip in the right shoulder

I can’t imagine a better jacket ever made and worn

I resist the mad impulse to leave you in the trash,

All the memories we’ve had and the roads we’ve seen

This ode I’m dedicating to you.

Ripping you off and elbow dropping you

How I abused you over the years,

But you never left"like a loyal dog.

My old, dear jacket, you’ve kept me fairly warm

Nowadays, you let snow down my shirt

I really don’t appreciate that, even though it’s a joke

I’ll hold on to those memories tight

Like when you held me for years.
