Too Young

I had an innocent mind,
An untouched body
Until the day I screamed 'No'
I was too young to know
What it meant to be shoved onto a bed

At 6 years old my first kiss was by a curious girl
No one knew I told her to stop
I was too ashamed to tell
For four years I continued to be tested
Before I was 16, nearly every touch felt like I was being molested

I was the only one who knew the truth
The assaulter's parents couldn't even look the me in the eyes
They just thought I might not like guys
If they only knew what their daughter had done to me

They'll never know my secret
My faultless discovery
That my self hatred started when I begged someone to quit
It's not always men who touch roughly

Author's Note

Ive always denied that i was sexually abused until now and it was a huge realization of mine. Also the reason I wrote this was because women(mostly) and men need to realize not everyone is sexually assaulted by a man. Women do it too. And I'm sick of women thinking men are the scource for all our problems when each gender is equally at fault. Thanks for reading

Very powerful poem. It's interesting how adults remember their childhood as a happier time and safe. But as I think back now that's when I was the weakest and the most open. Things that happened then were brushed off and not understood. But if they happened today my world would flip upside down. Thanks for putting that into perspective for me. And thanks for sharing.

Well, sexual abuse of a child is always sick. If ya ask me, i'd put the abuser out of their misery...but that wont help the victim recover from the trauma. It is really brave to post this poem out for the world to read. You are really talented.

You are one of the bravest writers I have ever come across, without a doubt. To have the strength to rise up and speak about something so horrible, not for attention, but in hope that it serves to aid a cause for the greater good of society, is something not many people have. You make a very good point, both men and women are equally at fault for this demented and very sick crime. I am very sorry to hear that somebody such as yourself had to go through that, really I am. Most people would probably give up on everything after something so traumatizing, but not you. Instead, you are using that experience as a way to raise people's awareness about rape and the need to put an end to it. You have earned my respect for being so strong and brave, really you have. Take care, and know that you have many friends, family members, and even people you don't know(both who know your pain and don't know it) who will stand by your side during your crusade. :)

I am grateful for your courage in this painful poetry, and the honesty of your author's note. I was molested when I was 10 by my brother's best friend, and never said a thing until I turned 18. Was surreal when my molester sent me a friend request on fb a few months back. I so hope you have found peace for you.
