Tristan & IsoldeA Poem by Cristal BridgesI wrote this after watching the movie version of Tristan & Isolde. Here I stand before two tombs Of lovers cold and still And growing here two twining blooms A flower and a quill Who were these two young lovers That lie betwixt the sod And who doth this rich earth cover Two enemies, how odd She a Celtic royalty Who didn’t want her role He lived for honor and duty A gentleman of old These two met unexpected When he washed up from sea Their two hearts boldly connected Their love could never be He was fixed in Nightshade’s sleep She made him aright They swam in love’s ocean so deep As two hearts took to flight Then he had to leave her there And find his way back home Back to the British island fair Now these two were alone Then their came a tournament He won her for his king Imagine his bewilderment When he saw what it did bring She had lied about her name And he was none the wise Her face was filled with so much shame As tears poured from his eyes Back on the shores of Britain They lived in agony But what can I say these two were smitten Oh here comes treachery The king and his men did find The two alone one night The fair Isolde for whom he pined Now in another’s sight She told him of their loves tale Of her lover so true The Irish lass with hair so pale Did all that she could do
Knowing their love was just A war broke out in the kingdom To their aid he did rush This tales end is bitter sweet The two did lose their lives That’s why they’re lying ‘neath my feet And these two plants do thrive © 2010 Cristal Bridges |
