Novocain

Novocain

A Poem by Cristal Bridges

Numb nerve endings,

Twisting away from pain.

Caustic lye corroding ,

All of these blood veins.

Dripping down the canvas,

Turning me inside out.

Acidic paper cuts ,

Hear me scream and shout.

Poison tipped brushed,

Do a dance upon my skin.

Arsenic painted palette ,

Sinking deep down in.

Paint with lethal strokes,

Cutting deep into the bones.

Formaldehyde seeping in,

To create those muted tones.

When this artist is finished ,

A painted Blue December.

I need some Novocain,

God help me to remember.

He’s finished his masterpiece,

Now washing out his tainted brush.

While this atropine heroin,

Turns to ashes soot and dust.

Are you a poetic doctor or nurse with a penchant for artistry and murder? Very clever use of medical jargon and rhyme . Sort of dark, perhaps your life has brightened on the other side of the country with
your beau. Wish you good luck and peace and look forward to reading more of your musings.

Very vivid - the imagery was fantastic. I particularly liked the lines 'He’s finished his masterpiece,
Now washing out his tainted brush.' Good job!
