Sleepless SerenadeA Poem by Ashley FlynnA poet mourns love lost, finding solace in verse.
Paper starts to wrinkle
Ink begins to fade Letters that I never sent Since you sent me away The verses here are madness, I profess, pursue, persuade. Love and hope and agony, I scream your serenade. In sleepless nights I spoke your name, But you weren't there to find. You said I couldn't have you, So I wrote you in my mind. In hollow bliss, your memory, persists in passion profane. The melody of your voice, A sweet, perverse refrain. Haunted by the echo of Last words you said to me, Clear mind drifts from broken heart, Knowing one day I'll be free. That one morning I'll awaken, One day the sun will rise, And I will not expect you, Sleeping at my side. And when that night falls, When I do not watch the door, Or wait for your return, To my life and heart once more. That night I will be free of you, Unaffected by your charms, No longer dreaming of the nights, I slumbered in your arms. But until all the words spill out, The well of love runs dry, I'll sing these last notes of your song, But never say goodbye.
