Goodbye

Goodbye

A Poem by Darkling

Saying goodbye is the easiest hard thing I've ever done.
You see... I'm good at just waving goodbye and walking out. Avoiding awkward conversations and pointed fingers. But meaning it when you scream I hope I NEVER see you again?
That's something much more difficult -something that I haven't quite figured out how to master yet. You see it's easy to say goodbye; it's even harder when you wake up the next morning and there's no one to say hello to. That..that is more difficult than any good-bye could ever be.
When you roll over in the middle of the night and the sheets on the other side of your bed are cold because you.. said goodbye. and they.. thought you meant it. And when you pushed them out and locked the door... You sat on the otherside waiting for a knock to show they cared. Sobbing. Praying you'd be worth the fight to someone. But they.. they kept walking. and now there's someone else walking next to them on the beach, laying there watching the sun drop down while listening to the waves crash against the shore. Now there's someone else waking up and pulling him into their arms after a nightmare so they can fall back to sleep curled up like you used to be. You see... I say I'm good at goodbyes but maybe... They're the ones who are better at leaving the past in the sand
