Holding On To You

Holding On To You

A Poem by Dark Tower
"

I believe that you're stronger than him.

"
You told him all that he needed to hear
His promise to change is murky and unclear
And on the inside
Festering in pride
Is every bit of the monster you fear
Your joy is a lie
Forced to cover your frown
Because that is the only thing in your life he can't turn upside down

There are women who look up to you
What would you want any of them to do?
If they were you
Would you still value what you do?
You think you won't feel this way again
But surely you know that a cycle repeats
All of the fear, manipulation and pain
Will melt the last of your strength with vengeful heat

And gone will be the once special smile
Gone will be the laugh thats melody rivals the muses
Gone will be the most cherished of a mothers child

When last you lay in my arms
You had just exchanged dooming words with it
Told me that the monster had your heart locked somewhere in its pit
That the monster had ordained to forgive you your transgressions
I didn't let you finish
I pulled you in
You kissed my lip so hard you almost bit it
The passion that followed had angels applauding the sin

And after when we were done
When we smiled and kissed playfully
Like it would always be this fun
I told you

You were not put here to suffer
You were designed by God to be embraced
To be loved with an intensity comparable to no others
To be free and admired like the very stars in space

What I feel for you
I feel for you
And I am powerless to change it
It pains me to soul to see yours so bruised
And to watch the demon take delight in draining it
I will forever stand my vigil and keep watch over you
Until the day you realise that monster is not capable of loving you
