The WeddingA Poem by Dark TowerThe Wedding
I can hardly believe that I'm standing here I'm shivering My heart beat drums out in fear The speaking of the priest is soft and seems vague You are the only thing that is clear Our fingers are interlocked The weather is pleasant and cool But for where our hands touch it is warm and hot
I had written my vows down But now I have forgotten We're on the alter facing the crowd Its unorthodox but I bend to my knee Take you hand in mine and whisper softly You will never know how much I love you There is not enough in our lives for me to explain But I will spend mine trying to show you a glimpse Of a love of which none other is the same If I should die prematurely Let you say that no other could love you like I did I swear on the flutter of our first borns eyelid A promise more memorable than our baby's first words That I will exist everyday to be the man that you deserve
I stand back on my feet and await the priest After an eternity it seems The words we have waited for, he finally speaks “You may kiss the bride” Inwards we lean And let our lips seal A contract that our hearts have drafted And even when they separate let it be known our hearts shall never be parted
