What If

What If

A Poem by Dark Tower

What If

What if your smile no longer made him happy?
What if your voice no longer raised his spirits?
But instead frustrated him to his core every time you open your mouth and he has to hear it.
Would you say that it was not your fault?
That you hadn't been cold?
What if he had become so accustomed to your accuses
That he used them to form nooses
That he hung himself with?
What if one day you tell him you love him
And he no longer knows what to say?
What if instead of putting his arms around you every time you pushed him away
He just nodded and stayed away?

The hurt is so raw and clear in this poem. I like the honesty of it. Good write, B.C.

The what ifs leave us with questions and wonder. People do change. No-one like change. Especially in the emotion of love. "What if" is the unsteady balance of life we must walk and live with. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
