Hold My Hand

Hold My Hand

A Poem by Dark Tower

Hold My Hand

There are a million different clichés

That I could write a million different ways

But it the simply truth is so much easier to say

I love you

And I want you to stay

I want you to hold my hand as I guide us through the pain

The fog of lies has cleared

The pain has ceased its rain

One hand holding you firm and the other wiping away your tears

My back scarred from defending you from your fears

I know things will get hard girl

But that’s just the way of the world

I’ll be there to help you until the end

If I could I’d make this world vanish

And all that would be left is us.

All I know

Is every time I see you go

The pain kills me although I do my best not to show

To see you smile at others is like a killer blow

I’m not the jealous type

I just know what those others guys are thinking

With their sly smiles and their secretive winking

And please don’t get me started on Marty

Slick little boy inviting you to his birthday party

He puts his hands on you and I swear I’ll kill him in front of everybody

I want you to take my hand

Blow them kisses

For once we leave

All they could ever do is miss us.

I believe holding hands is a very good connection for people. Holding your child hand for safety or a lover's hand for love. Is a good thing. I like the thoughts in the poem. The ending was harsh. Good to have concern and love for someone. Be careful not to cross a line of foolishness. A very good poem. Open the door to questions.

This makes me think of a love that has a protective aspect because the beloved may be vulnerable and/or naive. It doesn't seem possessive, just aware and wise and knowing that love is not always easy, or without pain, but it is worth it. Love the last 4 lines especially.

It starts so sweet, so endearing, then builds to the painful haze that suffocates all love. Yet it ends with, again, a touch of sweetness. Clever, Bee.

Thanks Lisa. This was originally supposed to be a song, but I think it works better this way.
