My best Friend Vodka

My best Friend Vodka

Always there for me.

My Best Friend Vodka

Walking down this street bottle of vodka in hand

Bought it an hour ago but already it sounds hollow

Just another alcoholic man

Tried to escape them but everywhere I run the demons, they follow

They weigh down

Taunting me

Haunting me

Until all that’s left nothing but the dried husk of Bee

And just when it seems that I’ve reached the end

And its time to jump off the cliff

The bottle of vodka comes to me and offers to my pain mend

It calls to me, until I take a sip

The vodka takes control and into my subconscious me and my demons slip

Sober today

Take a deep breath, arm myself with a smile

Walk out the door, and pray to God everything will be okay

Good day, full of smiles, laughs, friends and hugs

But then all to soon

You’re all alone,

No joy talking to the moon

Demons from the past come back to haunt me

So I search for somebody to help me desperately

I just need someone who understands the pain

Now I can hear something calling my name again

The bottle of vodka comes to me and offers to my pain mend

It calls to me, until I take a sip

The vodka takes control and into my subconscious me and my demons slip

I stare at the razor and then at my wrist

When I try to think of reasons not to do it

But all that enters my mind is this.

Really nice BC, enjoyed it. Really captures an alcoholics affinity with the bottle.

I didn't need death with the booze. Booze made the world acceptable. Death allowed the people who dislike you to win. A real evil man hang around to torture the people who hate them. A very good poem. Made me think again. No weakness in the outstanding poem.

I've been down many roads, leading off to despondency, but never took to drink.......your poem makes one self examine......take a long look in the mirror........one always needs a lifeboat.......:O)

We can be pathetic sometimes. It is when we start to feel tired and useless. It is when we want to give up. And these feelings are what you've rightfully captured. Extreme!

Vodka is NOT my friend! Looks like it's not yours either. But seriously, words of truth about how alcohol numbs the pain for just a second- then it comes right back. Well done, and I agree with Cole; 3rd stanza's my favorite. It's very personal and descriptive.

Addiction is a powerful disease and it can take control of your life and send you spiraling downwards. I think you captured that feeling of hopelessness very well here. The third stanza is my favorite.
