Can You Feel My Heartbeat?

Can You Feel My Heartbeat?

A Poem by DarkShines
"

Had a lot of fun doing my poem with the Muse lines in it, so I wanted to do one more before I moved on. This one incorporates lines from the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds album, Push The Sky Away.

"

Our children grow up broken

“The trees all stand like pleading hands...”

No will to work, no will to learn

And you can't understand

Everything you love, dangles by a thread

“Step on the beach beneath the iron skies...”

The future is in their hands

A horrid absolute we need to realise

An age where true values are dead

“All you young lovers, where do you hide...?”

And hypocrisy rampant

One really has to think and try to decide

Is this the world for my future?

“I've got love in my tummy and a tiny little pain...”

Does anyone have a fighting chance?

Is there anything left, or unbroken to gain?

You once told me there was hope

“There was a catch...”

With a smile on your face

And a confidence I couldn't match

But I'm not so sure anymore

“The past is the past and it's here to stay...”

And the world grows a little darker

A little grayer each day

I'd shut it all out and lie with you if I could

“You draw lightning from the sky...”

But you've left this world behind now

And I'm afraid, but don't know why

I think one day I'll figure it out

“Can you feel my heartbeat...?”

I'll find my place in this broken existence

And never accept the defeat

The world may not feel like my home

“You've gotta keep on pushing, push the sky away...”

But I'll walk it to the end

And hope humanity hasn't fully lost it's way
