Run For My Life

Run For My Life

A Poem by DarkShines

They'll leave you

When you need them the most

Turn their backs and run

In that city by the coast

They don't know you son

And you don't know much more

You're just running blind

Headlong where there's no door

You're throwing away opportunities

That I never had

You need to listen to what I say

Listen to your old dad

-----

I hear what you're saying

But my words fall to the deaf

I know and can hear you praying

But I know what's best

The world isn't always the cold place

You grew up to know

Sometimes people are what they seem

Not always out for their own

My life sits three thousand miles east

I know you're scared I won't come back

But I need you to know I believe in my path

Even if I end up a penniless, lonely hack

It's so true, parents only want what's best for their children, but sometimes, in the process of that worrying, they add unneeded pressure to the whole situation. I really feel that here in this piece. The haunting tension, the terse rhyme scheme, the way your words are so intricately placed together....all of it serves as an interlude to a debate much greater, and I simply adore that. Your work never fails to impress! Excellent work!
