Jackson

A Chapter by Reaper

RING

The phone wakes me up. The call is from my girlfriend. Well let’s not say girlfriend, I don’t know if long distance counts.

I choose not to answer the call. I’m stull forced on the events from the weeks before.

It’s not every day that you fight a homicidal killer and survive.

I turn on the television to check the Maverick score from the night before. They lost, go figure.

The television announces the stories.

Our top story today. The Dallas County Prison was broken into and the guards were all killed. The prisoners escaped and all but three have been recaptured. Prisoners, Michael Roberts, Ronald Jones and Sterling Smith are still on the run. All three are extremely dangerous.

Well my day has gotten worst. The man who tried to kill me is now free and probably has help. It’s time to move again. I pack my bag, like I have so many times before. I guess Seattle is nice this time of the year.

And for once I was so close to my beloved girl. So damn close.

I check my phone and listen to the voicemail left by her:

Hey Jackson, you must be asleep, but I want to tell you that I can’t wait to see you tonight. Anyways enjoy your day, love you.

F**k. I thought it was going to be easier than this.

I hesitate then make a bad decision. I called her.

“Hey darling.”

“Hi sweetie.”

“I have something to tell you.”

“What is it baby?”

I’m going to regret this. “I was thinking, we can meet for lunch instead.”

“Yeah, but where earlier?”

“I got called back into work.”

“Oh okay, well lunch is good. Can we go to Lung Li’s?”

“Yeah sure, no problem. What’s the address?

I grab a piece of paper, the sharp edge clips my finger but before it can bleed, the wound gets healed.

great dialogue and action. story plot really moves along and engages with realism and piques curiosity. Was right there in the story and paused, too: I hesitate then make a bad decision. I called her.
