Chapter Five: Big Bad Wolf

Alice gets up from the soft bed and explores the room she is in. It looks like a pretty normal bedroom. Papers here and there. She finds a picture under the mattress. It’s of a slim, beautiful looking woman.  She has blonde flowing long eye, hazel eyes, pale complexion and semi rosy cheeks. She is smiling and she is happy. Alice has missed that feeling a lot. What else she finds under the mattress is a good surprise.

She grasps the surprise and goes to leave the room. She sneaks pass the sleeping Derek on the couch. She quietly unlocks the door and steps outside.

The moonlight shows the surprise as a grey steel knife that is in her hand as she looks for a way to escape. She walks in the nearly dark area but she can’t find an exit.  Suddenly a man yells out, “Hey b***h, what are you doing out this late?”

She hesitates, grasping the knife which he can’t see. She thinks to herself that she can take him.

That thought fades away when she discovers two more men with the man. They approach her and ask her again, “What are you doing out late?”

A voice behind is heard, “She was with me; we were looking at the moon so she could get into a mood.”

The men look at the man behind her, “Women. They always need a little extra then us men. Sorry to interrupt commander.”

Alice now knows its Derek who is behind her. Derek walks up to her and pulls the knife away from her. He leads her back to his quarters.

Once they are safely in, Derek raises his voice, “What do you think you are doing? Trying to escape? Do you realize where you are?”

“No, but I’m not going to wait here for something bad to happen.”

“Well even if you could get pass all the guards here and get outside, you would be faced with being at least 50 miles from where you were picked up. Then your next challenge would being in this hot zone for the unholy. And if you even survived all of that, you still would be tracked down by someone here or something unholy.”

“I didn’t expect it would be that hard.” Alice tries to laugh it off though she is still worried.

“And if you think I’m lying, I will gladly get you out of the gates and you can test it for yourself.”

“You would let me go?” Alice is almost in a complete shock.

“Yeah, if that’s what you really want then I’ll let you go.”

Alice hesitates, “What’s the catch?”

“No catch. I’m not going to force you to do anything.”

“I don’t understand.”

“In the end, when I do die in this world, the two things in my life I want are, one, to treat you with as much respect that I would show any other human being, because I wouldn’t this life for her. A life of being dominated by a man.”

“And second?”

“It’s personal.”

“Alright.” Alice looks at him, trying to figure it out.

“So do you want to stay or leave?”

She hesitates. “I’ll stay for now.”

“Okay. Goodnight again.”

Alice goes into the room. For the time in a year, she goes to bed without being beaten or forced to have sex. She almost smiles to herself.

After a few hours, she is woken, not by a penis, but by a smell.

It’s a weird smell but she knows she knows it. But she can’t figure it out. She gets out of the room.

That’s what it is.

It’s bacon.

Derek must be cooking up some bacon. Alice walks into the main room.

Derek sees her there and speaks.

“Do you like bacon?”

“F**k yeah.” Alice licks her lips at the smell that she hasn’t smelt for over a year.

“Well its lucky day then, it’s rare to have it now but lucky I found a wild pig a week ago and I got a part of it.” Derek hands her a plate of bacon.

“And you are sharing it with me?” Alice looks at it with lust in her eyes.

“I’m not going to eat it in front of you. Eat it up; it’s going to be a long day.” Derek smiles a little at Alice.

“How so?” Alice eats it and just smiles at the flavors in her mouth. She loves it.

“You have to do chores in the camp and give blood. Sorry I can’t get you out of those.”

“Can I ask you some more questions?”

“Sure. That’s fine.”

“I saw the picture under your bed. Who is that?”

“That was my wife. Or that was my wife.”

“What happened to her?” Alice finishes her bacon. Derek hands her some toast.

“She got killed a few months ago.”

“By who?” Alice eats the toast. She didn’t know how much she missed warm food. The last few months she had only been canned food.

“If you are thinking I killed her, I didn’t. It was something out there that did it.” Derek eats his toast and bacon. Being a commander, he always got the best of the foods.

“Alright, I believe you, sorry for your loss.” Alice tries to smiles to comfort him, “Next question. How did you become a commander?”

“I won a few key battles. And I’m one of the strongest fighters here.”

“You claim you aren’t like the others but if you aren’t then why do you stay?”

“Well, it’s simple. Safety in numbers. If I’m out there I will hunted down. Plus I don’t have the luxury of just taking care of myself. I have to protect Eve and others.”

“But I thought you said they barely harm humans. How can you stand being with these people?”

“Many things out there want to kill me. Maybe not aiming for

humans but aiming for me for sure. So I need to stay here so I can make sure they don’t me.”

“Why are you hunted?”

Just then a loud knocking comes from the door. Derek walks over and answers the door. It’s Georgia. She motions at Alice to follow her so Alice walks over. She follows Georgia out the quarters, giving Derek a slight wave as she leaves.

Georgia shares stories of the camp and what is expected for them to do in the camp. Alice tunes most of it out.

Georgia speaks in her bitchy Russian accent.

“So how’s the love life? When do you think you will have your first baby?”

“It’s only been one night. You are kind of jumping the gun.”

“Well you need to get on making babies. I’m the leader of the women, purely because I have the most kids. I have eight of them. More kids, means less chores. Lucky for you, you aren’t at the bottom of the order.”

“Why aren’t I?” Alice looks at her confused.

“You get credit for Derek’s kid. “

“Oh.”

“So you once again you got lucky. You land one kid already and one of the hottest guys here.” Georgia looks at her pissed, secretly been wanting to be with Derek since she met him.

Alice thinks to herself, she is kind of very lucky that Derek was actually good looking. The year of war he had been fighting, never dull his looks.

“I never noticed his looks.” Alice innocently says.

“Well you should. He also treats women the best. I wish I was with him instead of the old b*****d I have. I will drop you off in the care of Lilly, she will be your guide today.”

Alice walks into this crappy looking room with papers and clothes everywhere. Alice sees a younger woman then she is, sitting at a sewing machine. The woman has shoulder long blonde hair with some little black streaks in it. She is fixing some sort of brown jacket. Lilly looks up and speaks to her.

“You must be Alice?” The woman named Lilly looks up at her and smiles.

“That’s what I have been told.”

Georgia leaves hearing enough of Alice’s sarcasm. Alice looks at Lilly. Lilly seems like once she was the popular girl in school and had all the guys’ lusted after her. But now, her beauty has faded a bit, starting with her blonde hair faded and skin complexion was downgraded.

“Who do you belong to, Alice?”

“I don’t belong to anyone.”

“Okay. Who are you living with?”

“Derek.”

“Lucky girl.” Lilly smiles

“So I have been told.” Alice quietly laughs to herself.

Lilly hands her some fresh cloths.

“You can have some of Maddy’s old cloths; you are about the same size of her.”

“Who’s Maddy?”

Just as Alice asks and Lilly is debating on answering, there is air raid signal outside the room.

CALLING ALL GRAVE DIGGERS, THERE IS A WEREWOLF IN THE QUARTERS.

Lilly tells Alice to stay inside, while she searches and finds her gun. Lilly runs outside her quarters with the gun loaded with silver bullets. Alice doesn’t stay and she follows Lilly to the where the werewolf is.

The two women enter the camp clearing and see the ten feet tall hairy white fur beast. Blood from preys before drips from its ugly wolf like face.

It licks off the remainder of blood off its face. And goes in for the attack.

It's certainly getting more interesting as things develop. I'm getting to like the brashness more and more. There is still a few grammar mistakes here and there, so I suggest you read over it and pick those out.

"Just then knocking comes from the door. Derek gets up and answers. It’s Georgia. She points at Alice, and Alice gets up. She follows Georgia out."

I think that was just a little fast may need more description

"Georgia shares stories of the camp and what is expected for them to do in the camp."

As a reader I would love to hear those stores.

another good chapter, interesting to read, you describe Dereck well, I wish you put a bit more emotional feeling into Alices part, she seems to take everything in her stride, like its every day she learns about vampires, were wolves etc..but the plot seems good, and these things can easily be added. Thanks.

Again, the chapter seems completely dominated by dialogue. Though the story itself is interesting, I do feel it needs quite a bit of editing. Perhaps you should ask a friend or anther writer to be your editor.
There's no shame in that. After all, most professional novelists have editors that they pay.

Reaper, there are always Grammar Nazi's in all these on-line websites. Trying to find mistakes with everyone else's writing. However, they don't look at their own writing and find errors in their own stories. I think people inspiration to write. So therefore, write on, and if you afford grammar and spell check more power to you. Lucie
