I Wanna BeA Poem by ElizabethI wanna be a sturdy, gnarled sycamore tree Rooted, embedded in a single spot Unchanging, as the seasons pass by Unflinching, as the branches sprawl into the sky Unaffected as the birds sing their charming soliloquy I wanna be The cold, icy wind over the sea Drifting listlessly, over the world's expanse Partaking in the joyful symphony of the waves and the rocks Wandering without a direction, as a cool salty breeze Wayfaring among the voyagers and the reefs I wanna be An old, secretive passed down recipe From a great grandmother to her daughter To her daughter, to her daughter Whispers of tradition, bottled into an expression of love Held through memories of laughter and grief I wanna be A distinctive melancholic melody A nostalgic tune that carries warmth The jingling of windchimes during summer vacation The sounds of the bazaar as people haggle the prices of fruit A forgotten song played on grandma's radio I wanna be An embodiment of dichotomy Neither this or that nor here or there I'll bend like weed to the whims of the wind Or let my feet implant itself on the ground Anything but me, or maybe nothing but me © 2025 ElizabethAuthor's Note
