PrologueA Chapter by Ty (Ivan) BoyerPrologue for The Children Of TIme
Vergil kept running and running, in attempts to outrun Maxwell. Running aimlessly through the dense dark forest. Trees towering over him and surrounding him on all sides. His wound in his side still bleeding vigorously. His sight started to dim as he continued to run away from his brother.
He stopped to catch his breath. He was certain that his brother or his minions weren't anywhere in his sight, as he hadn't seen them since he entered the forest. He panted heavily, leaning his somewhat bulky body against one of the many tress he was surrounded by. His panting was getting frequent and he felt his body sink further down against the tree. His sight was getting dimmer and felt his eyelids getting heavy. Just as he was about to pass out, he felt a blunt object hit him in the side of his cranium, and he felt his body fly across the landscape. He was now lying flat on his stomach and felt the cold embrace of the ground below him, watching himself being drenched in his own blood. With what little sight he had left, he saw a big pair of boots approach him, and a bulky figure leaned over him and smiled. "Did you miss me brother?" It was Maxwell, "You know, I get worried when I see my brother run into the Forest of Illusions all on his own with no one to accompany him. Anything can happen you know." Maxwell stood up and started circling around Vergil, pointing his inordinately large blade at him as he circled. "What's wrong brother?" Maxwell asked with a sense of sarcastic concern in his voice, "Why don't you travel to the future? Escape my wrath." All Vergil could do, was lay there, helpless to do anything to stop his brother from taunting him. He wanted desperately to escape to the future. He wanted to escape to save himself, but didn't want to leave Anna behind. "What's wrong, brother?" Maxwell smirked "Oh, I see. You can't. You've lost too much blood. You're useless, brother. You couldn't even save our sister! Maxwell got on one knee and lifted Vergil's head from his hair, "You're a worthless piece of s**t, Vergil. That is all you ever will be. I hope you're ready to die. I also hope you're ready to have Anna's death on your head. When I get to her, all the power to control the past and future will be mine and Jarvak's to command!" Vergil started to laugh softly to himself. Maxwell gripped his brother's hair even tighter and brought Vergil's face closer to his, "And just what the hell is so funny, Vergil?" "You really have no idea, do you brother?" Vergil said, barely able to speak. Maxwell started to fell uneasy. "What exactly do you mean by that? Is there something you know that I don't?" "As a matter of fact I do, brother." Maxwell grew impatient "Tell me now, and you might just live longer if I like what you say." He said with a tone of anger in his voice. "There's a reason we went in pairs when we traveled through time, Maxwell. Do you have any idea why?" "No I don't should I?" "You shouldn't kill Anna, Maxwell, if you do, the next time you travel to a time period, you more than likely won't be able to come back, you'll be stuck there." "I grow tired of this, Vergil. Just get to the point, before I lose my patience and kill you." Before Vergil could say another word, he felt his brother's grip loosen from his skull, and felt himself being swept off the ground swiftly. He heard the sound of clanking metal ring through his ears. "Go! Get Vergil out of here! I'll hold off Maxwell!" He heard a woman's voice say. The next thing he knew, he was seeing his brother get further and further away from his sight, he closed his eyelids, and everything went dark.
