The Promise

The Promise

A Poem by John Sabado
"

This is about a broken hearted person, addressing his/her former love about some sort of promise, a promise that the other could not keep.

"
I trusted the will of fire
In situations most dire
True love brings everything
Then fades to nothing
My angel promised happiness
She's given only sadness
How long do you plan this charade
Stop ruining my parade
I promised you everything
Everything love could bring
You turned your back, walked away
Leaving me in dismay
Give me a try
before you say goodbye
That's the least you could do
After all I've done for you
The promise once held
Now only pain is felt
I thought you were the one
I guess we really are done
Remember my name, you'll hear it again
Every now and then
It'll call to you in the night, young Miss
Reminding you of the broken promise

I actually don't know what kind of poem this is, so bear with me. I wrote this a long time ago. I just wanted it to rhyme. When I wrote this I was in a bad place, I wanted to get my emotions out. This is also the first poem I wrote that didn't involve it being graded by a school. What do you guys think of it? Please any review will be much appreciated. Also, if someone can tell me what kind of poem or what it's closest to, that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Rhyme can be tedious, for sure. I always find it a good exercise, though, just for the sake of creativity- so hats off to you for making it work!

I do like poems that feel as if the author is confiding in his pen. Thank you for sharing :)

I started writing when I was about 17/18 years old. I decided to write because I was going through a tough time and I used writing as a way to pour my emotions. I was experimenting on a lot of differe.. more..
