Equinox.A Poem by Stormy Weather
Why must the seasons change?
The summer heat morphs into a cold, frigid chill. Rain pours in from the clouds, drowning all, In its watery coffin. Why must the clock keep ticking? Each second passes. Tick. Tick. Tick. A new moment born, an old moment retired, Soon to become extinct as the clock keeps Tick. Tick. Ticking. Why must children grow up? Innocent smiles fade into worn stitching. Gentle attitudes evaporate and leave Empty shells, to fill with the evils of life, And soon shatter. Why must we rot? Leaving our last breathe lingering On our lover's lips. Soaking into the soil like spoiled meat, Disappearing, and leaving nothing but a picture; A memory. Why must people leave? Forever is a lie when it passes through Your lips. Crying becomes as natural as breathing, And your fingertips mechanically graze the soft Material left behind. Crumbs remain of what was a buffet. Wrinkles overtake and the material stays Clenched in your cold, bony hands And that clock keeps ticking away.
