Memory Lover, Leaving Time

Memory Lover, Leaving Time

A Poem by Kristen Darian Marie Wiley
"

Stream of Consciousness, and regret.

"

I'm sorry, did I interrupt?
I thought it might be okay to speak,
 okay to ask,
                             okay to have a thought.
But I see I've surprised you again, while you were looking elsewhere.

I'm sorry, but do I know you?
I thought somewhere I'd seen your face,
       heard your voice,
reached for you while I slept.
But your look says my empty-room-heart-ache does not belong to you.

I'm sorry, did I wake you?
I thought you were here with me,
                                     here for me,
here for as long as it takes.
But while I waited here all this time, your eyes were always shut.

I'm sorry, did you say my name?
I thought I heard that sound that knows my touch,
                that knows my scent,
            that has learned my everything.
But silent, cold spaces tell me I've been living alone with echos for friends.

                I'm sorry.
