Copycat

Copycat

A Poem by Dareen
"

A poem I wrote with my sister because my parents are always referring to her as my 'copycat'.

"

When people call you a copycat,

And some call you fat,

When your mother’s ears are like a bat,

And your father refers to your sister’s ‘friendship’ as a cataract,

When they stop calling you by your name,

And instead say you’re a tool in your sister’s fame,

When everything you say, it seems,

Is just an alibi for Dareen,

But they never refer to you as a team,

No: you’re just her

Author's Note

Dareen
This is a poem for children, I think, but it's also what me and my sister were able to write when we were frustrated, so I think of it as some diamond formed by pressure.
