Forever

Forever

A Poem by Dareen

You sleep

and I sit

watching your sickbed

Your deep breath

stops

Your heart

stops

The blood that made you vulnerable

stops

You do not

whisper my name

nor die in my arms

You are not

drenched in blood

nor in immense pain

I am not crying

We are not

under rain

We are just

like your death

We are

unpassionate.

Yet

that does not mean

we did not love

each other as much

as those star-crossed lovers.

I love you now

like yesterday

like tomorrow.

You remain in me:

in the parts yor presence changed

even when those parts change

you will have made

a difference

in them.

I love you now

like yesterday

like tomrrow

I take your hand

and on it plant

your farewell kiss:

something you never felt in life

so you may feel it now

in death

I will not disturb

you dead

beautiful

face

your now colourless lips

The colour of your

lips

once

entranced me.

I love you now

like yesterday

like tomrrow

forever.
