Choices

It’s twilight, all is quiet now

Thought tires, my mind stills

The air transforms

From dry heat to evening chills

I wish I knew how to live

Tomorrow, next year, right now

The shadows grow thicker, darker

Like decisions wondering how

Time ticks like a metronome

Never stops, never slows

Until I’m bathed in darkness

One final wisp of light glows

Where is the moonlight

Is it a new moon or an eclipse

Ironic that I’m cloaked in night

When I’m trying to see the light

No distractions in the dark

It’s comforting to see only thought

Feel only the chill of the unknown

And the discomfort of your own skin

Choices root when tended

Sometimes with tears like morning dew

Or with the pull of a midnight sun

Or just look away, and it comes to you

I see it grow with the breaking dawn

And it’s nourished by the sun

I smile with a certain smugness

Right or wrong, tomorrow has begun.

My sister is all about the Twilight books so I wrote this for her incorporating the titles of the books.
