A Lesser BeautyA Poem by Darian JustineTo all of you who go through things like this..
She cuts her wrists
and the scars they show hidden underneath her sweater so know one ever knows she cries herself to sleep at night filled with sadness and despair wondering if anybody will ever notice and if they do, will they care? they call her a loner say she'll never be enough her teachers throw her tests back at her say she couldn't possibly amount to much the kids they make fun of her her ratty hair, her torn up clothes her handmedowns from her siblings the shoes are worn down in the soles one night she goes back home to the abuse she has to bear her father screams in her face and slaps her to speak a word, she wouldn't dare She slips up to her room so quietly that nobody really notices her gone until they open up the bathroom door and with a gasp their words are withdrawn Heaven gained an angel that night because of the creulty of the world the spat out insults and jabs toward a truly amazing girl what is this world coming to that we all feel the need to point making fun of others in our lives when its us, ourselves, that disappoint Why is everybody always so mean to the helpless, to the weak immediately shooting down the chances not giving them a chance to speak Everybodys idea of beautiful perfect hair, perfect clothes, its all so snooty when the most amazing people are the imperfect They are not a lesser beauty
