Walls

Walls

A Poem by Darian Justine

Those walls I built
you broke them down
they weren't meant to keep people in
only to keep them out

You knew that somewhere deep beneath
that heart I kept so closed
there was a girl willing go open up
to the love she'd never known

At first I tried to push you away
and the feelings I felt, I denied
but somebody in my life saw past it
because she could tell my lies

You pushed your way past the first bricks
until those walls began to fall apart
you reached through, touched my soul
and also, you stole my heart

I tried to steal it back
to stop you from running away
but you took off at a faster pace
you got farther with it every day

Eventually I stopped running
and started to face my fears
you held my hand and guided me
you dried away my past tears

The touch of your hand set me to life
your arms so gentle and strong
the way I feel, so protected
like I belonged here all along

Now that you've got my heart
I think you're sent from above
the sparkles dance in your eyes and I in your arms
to the song of everlasting love

I trust you with all my heart
something this big, started out so small
but it grew, and now I thank you
for tearing down those walls

Thanks for giving me this chance
to see the world in a different view
thank you for being real
and showing me the truth

Love doesn't have to hurt
you don't have to stay down if you fall
and once in awhile it's okay
to let down your walls
