Twilight Skies

Twilight Skies

A Poem by Darian Justine

Under twilight skies we watch
The world fade into black
The stars forming slowly
On a blanket of darkness

Soft whispers of the wind
The sweet chill of the evening air
Your laughter rings out softly
The best music I've ever heard

We talk endlessly
About everything, about nothing
And never run out of words
All through the night

You hold my hand tight
Pointing out constellations
Things in the night sky
But I'm really not paying attention

My mind is on you
My mind is on this moment
This moment lying here with you
The moment I never want to end

My head is on your chest
My eyes are softly shut
The beating of your heart
Is the only sound I hear

Suddenly I wake from my memory
And realize that's all it is
You left me awhile ago
And you haven't come back

You may be gone, not mine
And even if I'm never back in that moment
I'll never regret a moment spent
Under twilight skies
