White RoseA Poem by Danielle Khairallah
You were named after a rose
You looked like a rose... You smelled like one too You even had a rose-like behavior. A white rose, with a sweet fragrance That naturally filled the space around you A white smile, that seemed so innocent Resembling a beautiful white rose petal You moved with the wind Slowly flowing around the world You bent to the ice cold winter And rose to the warmth of spring A white rose, with shiny white petals A white personality, like the early morning dew You spread your purity like pollen spreads flowery life You walked in liberty like nature gave you freedom A white rose, with shiny white petals A white rose, you turned out not to be For right below your fragile petals I felt the thorns of your lies cut deep into my skin A white smile, but it was nothing more than a useless seed Your sweet fragrance suddenly turned to a smell of death You stood within the ice cold winter and strengthened your thorns You slept in the warmth of spring but spared no rest for others A white rose you surely have been But a rose with thorns so strong I could no longer touch you Farewell, my dear, thorny white rose After all, your thorns never stopped me from loving you © 2010 Danielle KhairallahAuthor's Note
