The Bottle of Wine

The Bottle of Wine

A Poem by Danielle Khairallah
"

I wrote this for a friend. The bottle of wine symbolizes her in fact.

"

Once upon a time
There was a bottle of wine

Came an old man and kept it in a barrel of pine!

The bottle was reaction less
And remained silent in darkness

It was kept to grow old as now it was tasteless

As many years would pass on
Though the bottle’s wine had grown

The old man died and left his treasure to his son

And when the time was right
On one peaceful night
For the bottle to come out and take flight

The old man’s son opened the barrel of pine
Reached in his hand to grasp the bottle of wine
He heard a small voice… cry and whine!

It was the bottle, too much used to solitude
To come into the light, it suddenly refused
Leaving the old man’s son upset and confused

And though it was time for its treasures to unveil
The bottle became like the secret of the grail
Enclosed inside a wooden barrel…a jail.

This friend kind of disappeared to her town and hasn't made contact with us for a month. Us being the group of friends. I guess this is my way to tell her I miss her !
