She stared at herself in the mirror. She didn’t recognize the person she saw! Someone else was staring back at her. Someone sad, angry…The face in the mirror was very tired, under the eyes were two black holes, caused by so many sleepless nights.

-Who are you and what have you done to me?!

The person in the mirror suddenly changed her expression. She was no longer sad, but furious. Her eyes were almost gleaming red, her mouth shut tight as though to stop some horror from coming out.

-YOU!

She recognized that stranger now.

-You’re the monster who ruins everything…You’re the one killing me!

Anger was rising in her chest. She knew this monster was the one hiding inside her, and she knew when this monster came back. She was home.

-They’ve been feeding you a lot, haven’t they! She yelled angrily. Why won’t you let me go?!

She sat down, trying hard to breathe. It was her, but not entirely her, this person she saw in the mirror. It was the side of her she loathed. The person in the mirror was only present at home, and it was as if they called it out, all of them! She hated the person she turned into, at home. She became a sort of monster, constantly yelling. She spent her days sitting alone in her room, not talking much, only coming out to eat. Something about home wasn’t right, it had changed. Everything had changed, everyone was different. Or was it simply her? No. She never changed, despite the fact that they constantly harassed her to change for years. They were the ones changing, becoming angrier, yelling and fighting at every occasion possible, making a big deal out of the smallest of things, making her life miserable. And in return, she made their lives miserable too…she was no longer herself, but a furious girl in rage, revolting against everything. She was turning into a monster, and every day she hated herself more and more.

Nobody knew who she really was anymore. She left home to live close to college, she changed. She left home, and back a stranger.

I think one could call it 'Puberty'! So many new feelings to sort out. A body changing in all places, skin not looking as it had always looked smooth and fine. A face in the mirror that changes every day a little more, where has it gone the innocent and happy with the world and life spirit showing in your eyes?! People one encounters ask so much of you in believes you to be a fully grown adult - fully responsible for all your actions, when you yourself have no idea what they want of you, which path to go, where the child has gone that you were and probably still mostly are inside ...

Wonderful piece with a deep essence. The search of the real 'I'.
Excellent work. Bravo!
